Chymey Packaging Design
What is Chymey? It is a brand that sells tea and believe in the magic of the heavenly elixir. Be it that small rejuvenation gap between your crazy work schedules or that romantic date with that special someone or a homely tea party with your pals or simply that cold winter evening when you curl up in your blanket with a hot steaming cup happiness. Chymey Tea renders you the best at all times. The Regulars. The twists in the tale. The pick-me-ups and the calm-me-downs. The La-di-lahs and the Dainty Darlings. There’s something for everyone – from the first time tea drinker to the most daring tea connoisseur. The Chymey ensemble of premium teas boasts of the gracefully traditional Chymey Classics, the delightfully unique Chymey Good Life, the delectably exotic Chymey High Living and the luxuriously light Chymey Health freaks.
At Chymey, every blend has a story to tell. A reason for being. Some have zing. Others, oomph. One is a lullaby. Another pack a punch. At Chymey, they believe in the magic of tea. In the comfort it gives to a weary soul, the joy it bestows on a lonely one. They believe in the special bond, the lasting moment, you share with your tea. That’s why creating that perfect blend for you means the world to them. Crafted from the finest handpicked teas and the most heavenly infusions, the Chymey ensemble is a labor of love.
They came up with a contest where we had to design the packaging for their customisable blends. Anyone and everyone was invited to take part in the contest and they would shortlist Top 10 best designs from all over the world. The shortlisted designs were posted on Instagram. The post that had maximum number of likes, would win the contest. So, I gave it a shot. And guess what!? Interestingly, both my designs were shortlisted among the Top 10! I wasn't able to win the contest though because I was just a few number of likes away from the winners post. But anyways, I was extremely satisfied by the work I did so it didn't matter much to me if I won or not as that part was just about how well I could promote my post.
So moving on, their brief was for us to make a packaging design for their customisable blends, the customer image should've been on the front go the pack and the packaging should strike memories. They also strictly asked us to use the box mockup that they had sent us. So we couldn't play with what shape the box would be of.
Hence, I came up with the following designs:
Variation-01
This is a packaging version where the target audience would be those who belong to the upper middle class. Since we were specifically asked to keep some space for the customer image, I have illustrated so on the package. Since the blend would be customised to make the customer feel special, and that is why the packaging features their quirky illustrated image so that they feel it is THEIR tea.
That is also the reason why, the customer image comes first in the hierarchy compared to other elements. Also, the illustrated image is surrounded by berries and herbs of the tea blend so that the customer feels that THEY themselves have created the blend.
Variation-02
This is a packaging version where the target audience would be those who belong to the upper middle class. Since we were specifically asked to keep some space for the customer image, I have illustrated so on the cup of tea, from which a thought bubble is coming out in form of hot steam. Since the blend would be customised to make the customer feel that it's THEIR tea they're sipping the hot tea from.
The brief also stated that the packaging should strike a nostalgic memory. Hence, the thought bubble raising in the form of hot steam, from the customer's cup of tea has tiny illustration of how the tea makes tiny moments so special — Rainy Day Cuppa Tea, Cutting Chai, Early Morning Tea, etc.
Following are the variations of the same packaging (where in one variation, I've shown how the illustration would look in the final packaging):
